Overview

The main campus of Coventry University is based in the centre of England in the city of Coventry, with Coventry University London just an hour away by train. As a top five UK student city (QS Best Student Cities Index 2023) Coventry offers students the benefits of both a great city experience and a campus with a thriving community.

TheHub is the heart of student life on campus and a natural place to meet like-minded people and potentially life-long friends. Student experience is a priority for the university, which is recognised in its shortlist for University of the Year (The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021).

With 15,000 international students enrolled from over 150 countries worldwide making up a significant portion of the student population, there are plenty of opportunities to meet people from all over the world while studying one of the over 250 undergraduate and postgraduate courses available.

The Coventry campus is undergoing constant redevelopment. Recent investments include the multi-million-pound Alison Gingell building, offering Health and Life Sciences students the opportunity to experience real-world healthcare scenarios with a fully equipped ambulance, operating theatre and sports therapy clinic. The new GDP 25 million Beatrice Shilling Building is home to a host of facilities including a gaming and virtual reality studio, a specialist area for 3D printing and rapid prototyping, a laser facility and physics and electronics laboratories. The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is in the final stages of redeveloping its building complex which will include a hyper-studio for experimental, collaborative projects, new immersive studios for sound and vision (AR VR XR), new photography and film production facilities, hack labs, post-production and games suites, as well as a new gallery and fully updated creative practice studios, workshops and fabrication spaces.

The university has also invested GBP 89 million in accommodation between 2016 and 2019, including Bishopgate, Godiva Place and The Cycle Works, which are all located within easy walking distance of the main campus.

Graduate outcomes

Once you have enrolled, you will be assigned a Success Coach. Their aim is to make sure you have the support you need to make the most of your course and all that university life offers. Your Success Coach will be there to support you from day one until graduation.

Coventry University also offers dedicated careers and employability resources through its Talent Team to help students build their employment skills, get relevant work experience and obtain graduate level jobs. A range of advice and support is available, including guidance within a student’s course, advice on gaining employability skills, CV preparation, work experience opportunities, recruitment process help and preparation for interviews and assessments. Alongside working with students and tutors, they also work with employers and mentors in a range of industries, to make sure students get the most out of their time at university.

Coventry is also very well placed for the National Graduate Recruitment events in nearby Birmingham, and past students have gone on to careers with prestigious organisations such as PWC, Accenture and Jaguar Land Rover.

This support doesn’t end when students leave Coventry University, and there is a large and active alumni community that graduates can join, in addition to continuing to access careers advice and help up to two years from when student’s graduate.

Coventry University wins prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise

Coventry University’s significant international success has seen the institution presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise - the UK’s most prestigious business award.

The award, in the category of International Trade, is a huge achievement for the university, which has worked tirelessly to build relationships with institutions and companies throughout the world, while also drawing thousands of students from around the globe to its campus in Coventry.

Coventry University’s global outlook has also seen it establish a network of international hubs, in Brussels, Dubai, Singapore and Rwanda in addition to its branch campus in Wroclaw, Poland.

Now in its 53rd year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise enables winning businesses and charities to use the esteemed Queen’s Award Emblem for the next five years.

Eligibility

Entry requirements

Entry requirements vary according to the region an applicant is applying from, and what course they are applying for. The accepted entry requirements and their levels can be found, according to country of application.

For most undergraduate courses, students will need an IELTS score of 6.0 or an equivalent English qualification, and they will be asked to provide evidence of their English language test on application.

For students who wish to top up their English language skills, Coventry University offers pre-sessional English courses so that students can gain the required level of language skills to move on to their undergraduate or postgraduate courses. It can help to better prepare students for the demands of academic study and is also an excellent opportunity to meet other international students who are looking to study at Coventry University. Pathway Programmes at Coventry University

Coventry University offers high quality preparation programmes for international students who do not meet the requirements for direct entry to their preferred undergraduate or postgraduate course. The university supports students to achieve the academic and/or English grades they need and help gain the personal and professional skills required to study at university.

Teaching quality

Coventry University has an excellent teaching reputation. In 2019, the university was awarded a five-star overall rating for the first time in the QS Stars awards system, confirming the breadth of excellence across teaching, research and other key indicators.

Teaching excellence is combined with practical experience to prepare students for professional careers. Students work with world-renowned researchers and the university is known for research which tackles global issues. The focus of its research areas falls under five categories:

  • Intelligent products and processes, including work in hydrogen fuel cell cars and autonomous cars.
  • Health and wellbeing, including children’s literacy and mental health.
  • Creative cultures, including transport design and digital environments.
  • Sustainability and resilience, including bee populations and rail infrastructure.
  • Safety and security, including cybersecurity and migration.

Alongside the opportunity to research and study these innovative specialisations with expert researchers, students are also given the opportunity to gain practical experience.

From a moot room at the Coventry Law School to operating rooms, a midwifery suite and therapeutic treatment rooms at the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, students gain practical experience which will help them to achieve their career goals after leaving university.

The university also houses the Disruptive Media Learning Lab, a project which brings together academics, researchers, and technologists to find the best ways of learning, and then put them into practice across the university.

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities

Coventry University has a rich heritage of developing talented artists and designers. As the oldest part of Coventry University, the faculty now boasts specialist resources and state-of-the-art technology, recognising changes in the arts and preparing students to become talented professionals. The Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing

Situated in the birthplace of the British motor industry and the historical heart of UK manufacturing, the Faculty of Engineering, Environment and Computing enjoys a global reputation for business-focused research and teaching. The faculty is comprised of:

  • The School of Energy, Construction and Environment
  • The School of Future Transport Engineering

The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences

The faculty is home to the largest selection of forward-thinking vocational health and social care courses in the Midlands and consists of:

Faculty of Business and Law

Made up of the Coventry Business School and Coventry Law School, the faculty offers several specialisations. Coventry Business School specialises in Economics, Finance and Accounting, Marketing and Management, and Strategy and Leadership, offering a range of research and academic programmes alongside industry experience. Coventry Law School’s specialisations include International Law and Oil, and Gas and Energy Law. Students have access to the Moot room, to practice in a realistic, modern courtroom during their studies.
